March 30 is National Doctors’ Day, a time to recognize the heroic measures doctors take to keep their communities safe and healthy. We would like to personally thank the remarkable physicians at Texarkana Emergency Center & Hospital!

Our incredible team of emergency physicians go above and beyond to put our patients first. We appreciate each of you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the long hours you endure, the sacrifices you make, and the courageous work you do for our community. Texarkana Emergency Center & Hospital would not be where it is today without our amazing team of doctors!

Get to Know Our Extraordinary Doctors

Dr. Matt Young

Dr. Matthew Young is the Chief Medical Officer and has been practicing Emergency Medicine in East Texas for over 25 years. Dr. Young is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine by the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Young is happily married to his wife of many years, Cindy. They have two sons, Logan and Garrett. 

Fun fact: His father, Dr. Mitchell Young, practiced general surgery in the area for over 40 years. 

Dr. Dean Bowman

Dr. Bowman was born and raised in Ashdown, Arkansas. After completing his residency with AHEC from 2002 to 2005, he opened his family practice in Ashdown. He is board-certified with the American Board of Family Medicine. He has been serving the emergency needs of Texarkana and the surrounding areas since 2006. 

Fun fact: He enjoys spending time at the farm on his days off.

Dr. Kyle Groom

Dr. Groom is native to Northeast Texas. He was born in Texarkana and grew up there and in DeKalb. He is a board-certified emergency physician with the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Physicians. In 2004, he returned home to work as an emergency physician. He has served many roles since then, including working as the director/owner of a rural clinic, part-owner/supervising physician of a medical spa, EMS director, and many others. 

Fun fact: He enjoys going hunting, fishing, and ranching. 

Dr. Erik Jacobsen

Dr. Jacobsen has 21 years of experience in emergency medicine in Texarkana, making him an invaluable addition to our team. Quality emergency care is his passion, with a special interest in pediatrics. He is looking forward to continuing his practice at the Texarkana Emergency Center and serving his community.

Fun fact: When he’s not working, Dr. Jacobsen enjoys spending time at the lake or on the ocean.

Dr. Bo Kelley

Dr. Kelley has been servicing emergency needs in Texarkana for the last 22 years. Kelley grew up in northeast Texas and started his health care career over 20 years ago in nursing, focusing on emergency care. He later expanded his role to an advanced nurse practitioner in 2005, before earning his medical degree in 2011. He is board-certified, focusing his practice on both rural and community emergency care. 

Fun fact: Dr. Kelley loves adventures on his motorcycle in his free time.
